Chapter 13

COCK TALES

DAY THREE - Saturday Noon

“EXCUSE ME? SCAVENGER hunt winner Ryleigh Phillips, could you please pass the sunscreen?” Derek said to the brunette lounging beside him by the pool the next afternoon.

“Why yes, fellow fabulous green team scavenger hunt winner Derek Pearson, I’d love to,” Ryleigh replied, handing him the bottle of tanning lotion by her chair.

On the other side of her, Quinn let out a disgusted snort, and Ryleigh lifted her sunglasses to look at her friend.

“I’m sorry, scavenger hunt loser Quinn, did you have something to say?” Ryleigh asked.

“Yes,” Quinn replied. “You guys are assholes.”

“Oh, ouch.” Ryleigh looked over at Derek. “Did you hear what she called us, scavenger hunt winner Derek?”

Derek sat up and poured some of the sunscreen into his hand before rubbing it across his tattooed chest. “I did hear that, scavenger hunt winner Ryleigh. Sounds like someone’s a sore loser. Very jealous.”

“I’m not jealous, and I lost,” Hunter said, as he swam up to the edge of the pool and rested his arms over the edge.

“That’s because I won, and you get to come on the week-long trip to Venice with me,” Ryleigh said.

The smile on Hunter’s face grew. “Oh yeaahh. Good job, babe.” Then he shot a look at Quinn, who was scowling something fierce. “Sorry,” he said, unapologetically.

“I knew I should’ve gone snorkeling with the guys,” Quinn grumbled, and then pushed off her chair. “I’m going for a swim. Assholes.”

Ryleigh and Derek chuckled as she stormed away and then settled back in their lounge chairs.

“Poor Quinn. I don’t think she’s ever lost at anything before in her life,” Hunter remarked, toweling himself off as he came to stand beside them.

“I don’t think she stood a chance with that Lennon guy on her team. How was she supposed to know she needed to keep him on a leash so he didn’t go running off before the last challenge?” Ryleigh said. “I do feel kind of bad, though. Maybe I should give her your spot on the plane, Hunter.”

Hunter growled. “Over my dead body,” he said, and then stood over her to shake the droplets of water from his hair as she squealed and surrendered.
